Sigh. I am no good at this blogging thing. But three months later it’s about time for an update.
-Christmas, New Years, Valentines: All those holidays have come and gone and they were filled with good and happy memories. If only I had posted about them within a week or two of when they occurred then I would remember more of what happened. I did do a Christmas post complete with pictures then wordpress did something funky and my pictures disappeared so I gave up. But yes, a good time was had by all.
-Bennett has resigned from his youth pastor position at Furnace Creek Baptist. Bennett and I have felt God leading us away for quite some time, but Bennett felt the timing was right about a month ago. His last day is March 31st. We will be attending a church in Roanoke called Citylight. It is a church plant out of the Acts 29 ministry. Bennett has continued to have a burden for church planting and feels this will be a good place for him to learn and gain experience. He will not be employed there, but we are excited to go to a church and be a husband and wife, not the youth pastor and the youth pastors wife, for a change. We do not know how long God will have us out of vocational ministry but Bennett is just as excited to be getting a ‘normal’ job and to minister in the work environment. Please pray for us as Bennett continues to fervently look for a job- but we both have such a peace that God will provide the right job at the right time. God continues to show His perfect direction, peace and grace to us during this time. How scary it is to take that first step of faith and obedience- but then to see God lavishly bless us and see everything fall into place. More of that to come in future posts.
-On a lighter note, I am completely addicted to The Biggest Loser this season. It’s bad. So bad that I sometimes even tear up when people leave or have an emotional moment.
-I also have gone on my own little weight loss journey. On February 1st I started Weight Watchers and have lost 13lbs so far. I have also become a gym junkie and am currently loving my Zumba, Spin and Ab classes.
-God continues to bless us with friends in our little town of Rocky Mount that is predominately filled with senior citizens. A new couple moved into town from Christiansburg- we will call them E and J (not sure if they want their names plastered on my blog ;). They are super sweet and also love to go to the gym with us and our other friends Laura and Daniel. We are all around the same age, with no kids and share similar interests. E and J have also gotten plugged into Franklin Heights which is a great church in our area.
-My job is going well. I am excited to see God working in several of my co-workers hearts, especially one in general. The more I work where I am at, the more I am convinced that practical, daily, relationship building ministry is one of the best ways to show Christs love and to bring others to Him. I fail daily as my work place is an environment of stress and chaos at times, and my attitude and words reflect that at times- but I am trying to see my work not just as a place to earn money but as a mission field.
-Bennett has been working on his masters degree. We are not sure when he will finish it, but I am so proud of him and his love of learning. He is incredibly, incredibly smart and is an excellent writer. He says he actually enjoys school!
I think that hits the highlights of the past few months. I’ll end this post with a verse that has been on my mind and heart these past few days:
Psalm 138:8 “The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.”
